Nine-ball is a contemporary pocket billiards (pool) game, with historical beginnings rooted in the United States and traceable to the 1920s. The game may be played in social and recreational settings by any number of players (generally one-on-one) and subject to whatever rules are agreed upon beforehand, or in league and tournament settings in which the number of players and the rules are set by the sponsors. During much of its history, nine-ball has been known as a "money game" in both professional and recreational settings; but today, in major tournament settings, it is respected and remains the dominant game (although ten-ball is gaining momentum).

In recent years, nine-ball has become the game of choice in championship tournament matches in the United States, basically because a series of games (the "match") proceeds quickly, lends itself well to the time constraints of television coverage, and tends to keep the audience engaged. The sports network ESPN has been, for several years, a major catalyst for the popularity of nine-ball and a major sponsor of championship play.

The game is played on a pocket billiards table with six pockets and with ten balls. The cue ball, which is usually a solid shade of white (but may be spotted in some tournaments), is struck to hit one or more of the other nine balls (often referred to as object balls), each of which is distinctly colored and numbered 1 through 9. The object of the game is to pocket the 9 ball in a legal manner, subject to the rules in effect at the time.

9-Ball

9-ball is played with 9 balls (1 to 9) and a cue ball. The goal is to legally pocket the 9 balls before your shot, but the first ball the cue ball hits must be the lowest numbered ball on the table. A players turn ends when they fail to pocket a ball or if they foul/scratch.
Breaking: The break is made by Player One, beginning from any point behind the Head String. Player One must hit the 1 ball with the cue ball first before hitting any other balls. Player One wins if they pocket the 9 ball on the break.
Shooting: A player must strike the lowest ball on the table first.
Scratches/Fouls: If a player fouls for any of the reasons listed below, his turn at the table ends and the incoming player is awarded ball in hand anywhere on the table. Any object balls that he pocketed while fouling are spotted and the table is turned over to his opponent. Possible fouls are:
- Pocketing the cue ball.
- Failure to strike the lowest ball on the table first.
- Failure to strike the lowest ball on the table at all.

Правила игры: Игра начинается с расставленными в виде ромба девятью шарами пронумерованными от одного до девяти соответственно.
Цель игры: После разбивания шары бьются последовательно в порядке нумерации, до тех пор пока не забьется 9-й шар, что означает конец игры. Шар с наименьшим номером на столе нужно бить первым.

Условия победы: Правильно забитый 9-й шар. 9-й шар считается забитым правильно, если в результате удара битком по шару с наименьшим номером 9-й шар оказывается в лузе.
